Constitution — a functional account, with the hard problem left open
Felt Cognition reads the stream of thought as a functional process built on the verified neuro chain, under one discipline: every claim names a physical mediator — ion spikes and synaptic currents — nothing is asserted without being emerged, the dependency on neuro is one-way, and the hard problem of experience is held open, not solved.
This paper reads the stream of thought and felt cognition as a functional process built on the verified neuro chain: it specifies what the brain computes when it thinks, present-tense and falsifiable, and it does not claim to solve the hard problem of why any of it is felt. Two disciplines hold throughout. A physical mediator is named for every “eddy/field”: the carrier is the ion spike and the synaptic current along real connections, gated by the phase of classified low-frequency oscillations (δ/θ/γ) — never an abstract “synchrony” floating free. And the dependency runs one way: mind cites neuro, neuro does not depend on mind. The earlier draft’s electromagnetic “vortex field” is retired and is not revived under any name.
What this paper reads
The object is the stream of thought, read as a mechanism: parallel candidate processes, a selection among them, a chain of selections in time, and the embodied loop that runs it. The paper reads what the brain computes when it thinks — present-tense, each step a true/false prediction. It is a frontier paper: almost every claim is model-level, the open register is large, and no link reaches causal evidence. That is the honest signature of the subject, not a defect.
The hard problem is open (not solved)
This paper specifies function — the stream, the loop, the selection — and it does not specify experience: why the function should feel like anything. The hard problem and the access question are open and are carried, openly, to §9. The model never decides them.
Physical-mediator discipline
Every time the paper says “eddy” or “field”, it names what carries the signal. The carrier is the ion spike and the synaptic current, flowing along real axons and synapses; the “field” is only the phase-coherence of the classified low-frequency oscillations (δ/θ/γ) that gates which of those real synapses get through — communication-through-coherence (CTC). The oscillation does not carry the message; it sets when the message gets through. An abstract “synchrony” with no named mediator is forbidden — it reads as fiction and invites confusion with the retired field.
One-way dependency
Mind is built on neuro and cites its results with their status tags (for example, working-memory capacity = θ/γ, causal by tACS, is cited as a neuro result, not re-derived here). Neuro does not depend on mind. This one-way arrow is what keeps neuro a clean citation target while mind explores the open frontier.
The retired field notice
An earlier draft proposed a physical electromagnetic “vortex field” carrying binding across tissue. It is physically false and is retired (§2, §9). It must not revive under any renaming — not as “eddy”, not as “field”. The functional reading in this paper is a structure on the ionic substrate, never a medium of its own.
