Selection — one eddy is chosen by the same loop neuro verified
Selection is a closed loop: many eddies are laid down and one is selected through a field → race → carried → selection cycle [model]. The mediator is basal-ganglia selection acting on ionic assemblies, cited from the neuro chain, not a field. Absolute timing in milliseconds and dopamine levels remain open.
Among the parallel eddies, one is selected, and the loop is the same action-selection circuit the neuro chain verified. The laid-down field of eddies enters a race; the carried (most-ignited) eddy is favoured; the basal ganglia gate the winner (Go/NoGo), and that selected eddy becomes the next moment of thought while the rest decay or wait. γ predicts the selection delay — more ignitable, sooner carried. The mechanism is borrowed wholesale from neuro; what is open here is absolute: the timing in ms, the boundary units, and the dopamine concentrations.
One is selected
A stream needs a chooser. Out of the parallel field (§3), one eddy is selected to become the next moment of thought; the others are not erased but fall back, available for later. Selection, not generation, is where the line of thought is set.
The loop is neuro’s selection circuit
The chooser is not new to this paper. It is the basal-ganglia action-selection loop the neuro chain already read (Go/NoGo gating, dopamine-modulated) — here applied to internal eddies rather than external actions. This paper cites that mechanism; it does not re-derive it. Selecting a thought and selecting an action are the same circuit run on different inputs.
Carried → selected
The path is: the laid-down field of eddies → a race among them → the carried eddy (the most ignitable, §3) is favoured → the basal ganglia select it. “Carried” is the bridge: ignitability (a γ property) biases which eddy reaches the gate, and the gate makes it the winner.
γ and the selection delay
Because ignitability is a γ property, γ predicts the selection delay: a more ignitable eddy is carried and selected sooner. This is the chapter’s sharpest functional handle (γ→selection-delay is admissible), linking the rhythm to the timing of thought.

The mechanism is model-level (its component circuit carries direction support from neuro); the magnitudes are open: the absolute selection time in milliseconds, the boundary/threshold units of the race, and the dopamine concentrations that set the gate (§9).
